Thread Lift

Thread Lift

A thread lift is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure designed to lift and tighten sagging skin, often on the face and neck, without traditional surgery. It works by inserting dissolvable sutures, usually made of materials like polydioxanone (PDO), poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), or polycaprolactone (PCL), under the skin using fine needles or cannulas. These threads have tiny barbs, cones, or twists that grab and reposition the skin, creating an immediate lifting effect. Over time, the threads also stimulate collagen production as the body reacts to the sutures, leading to gradual improvement in skin firmness and texture even after the threads dissolve.

The results of a thread lift are more subtle than those of a surgical facelift, but the appeal lies in the minimal downtime and lower risk. Most people can return to normal activities within a few days, though mild swelling, bruising, or tightness may occur. Effects typically last from 12 to 18 months with PDO threads and up to 2–3 years with PLLA or PCL threads, depending on the type used, the area treated, and the individual’s skin quality.

Thread lifts are best for people in their 30s to 50s with mild to moderate skin laxity who want natural-looking results without surgery. They are not suitable for those with significant sagging or heavy skin, where a surgical facelift would be more effective. Risks include infection, thread migration, asymmetry, dimpling or puckering of the skin, and, rarely, thread extrusion (when the sutures become visible under the skin). Choosing an experienced, medically qualified provider is essential to minimize complications and achieve a balanced, natural lift.
