Lip reduction is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to make the lips smaller and more balanced in proportion to the face. Some people naturally have very full or thick lips, while others may develop lip enlargement due to previous filler injections, trauma, or certain medical conditions. Lip reduction focuses on removing excess tissue from the upper lip, lower lip, or both, depending on the patient’s needs.
The procedure is usually done under local anesthesia with or without sedation. The surgeon makes a small incision on the inside of the lip, removes a strip of tissue, and then carefully closes it with fine stitches. Because the incision is hidden inside the mouth, there is no visible external scar. The surgery generally takes 30–60 minutes, and most patients return home the same day.
